My life has been like an abstract painting.
Just like this picture card.
You could paint my life in light colours and dark colours,
Modern painting and classical painting,
Separates my two sides to my life.
The good brush strokes and the not good brush strokes,
I have victorian standards to one side and modern standards to my other side,
I like to divide my life style.

Myself
Nearly thirty years ago
I lost my job at a textile firm.
I went to pieces in myself.
I lost all self respect.
I lost all my working mates.
I became depressed in myself.
I went backwards in my mind.
I felt peculiar in myself.
I ended up in hospital.
What was it like being in hospital?
You had to do as you were told.
It was primitive but you made do
With the facilities they had.
No private rooms.
We didn’t complain.
We were there to get well.
I went to day centres.
I moved to a self care hostel.
I moved into a bedsit.
I learned skills.
I won awards.
Swimming art recovery
Assertiveness confidence building.
I sit on committees and councils.
I work part time.
I have my ups and downs.
I have seen life change.
After all this time
I have come a long way.
I have moved on.
I will move on.
My life is improved.
I am well
In myself.
