Storying Sheffield - Friday 17th June

Dear colleagues and friends,

This is to warmly invite you to the 2011 Storying Sheffield exhibition and showcase events.  They will be happening on Friday June 17th from 10 till 6 in the Jessop West Exhibition Space at the University of Sheffield.  Admission is free, and you can drop in any time during the day.

Storying Sheffield is an art and community project hosted at the University of Sheffield, which focuses on the creative representation of stories.which are less likely to be heard in mainstream culture.  Currently the project is mainly working with people with disabilties and/or who use mental health services.
The project involves undergraduate students and people from the city working together to produce films, digital artefacts, artwork, narratives and many other representations of the lives of Sheffield people, and the ‘life’ of this major British city.
Storying Sheffield first ran last year, and the 2010 exhibition was a wonderful event and celebration of Sheffield people's lives. We expect this year's events to be equally wonderful!  Over the past twelve months the project has expanded considerably, and the exhibition will also showcase some of the other aspects of the work we're doing. These include our work with Sheffield's 'Women of Steel', and projects running with Sheffield schools and with Museums Sheffield.

It would be great if some of you can come along. There will be a showcase event provisionally scheduled for 2.00, but do feel free to drop in any time.   Please pass the word on!
