Celebrate World Mental Health Day with CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle and Art Exhibitions
Thursday, October 7, 2010 Southwark-based mental health and arts charity CoolTan Arts will be buzzing over the next few weeks as their artists celebrate World Mental Health Day with a Largactyl Shuffle walk on 9th Oct, a Ruby Wax performance of ‘Losing It’ on 2nd Oct, and two art exhibitions – Road to Recovery Exhibition in Carnegie Library and Mad Heritage Exhibition at Oxford House.
World Mental Health Day is a unified effort to promote greater public awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness. Every year, thousands of people across the world raise awareness and funds for mental health causes. World Mental Health Day was started by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992.

9th October: Largactyl Shuffle - Celebrate Mad Heritage!
11.30am at Maudsley Hospital
From the Maudsley Hospital to Tate Modern, a sponsored walk to celebrate mad culture, raise money and challenge stigma associated with mental distress.
Celebrate mad heritage, explore the past, present and future of madness and psychiatric innovation. We will be celebrating World Mental Health Day and ‘mad’ culture by placing disposable public sculptures, produced in our Sculpture Workshop, along the route of the walk. * Part of the Story of London festival *
Discover Sir Peter Mansfield at the Institute of Psychiatry, Charles Babbage on Larcom Street, Michael Faraday at Faraday Gardens, Octavia Hill at Red Cross Gardens, and David Morris at Tate Modern.

The walk is suitable for wheelchair users, all welcome! Only £5 to sign up for a unique guided tour with reception at Tate Modern.

An exciting exhibition featuring artworks by participants at CoolTan Arts’ workshops, promoting mental health awareness and wellbeing. Event and exhibition are free.

Mad Heritage Exhibition at Oh!Gallery: October 4-29
A group exhibition of CoolTan artists celebrating World Mental Health and raising awareness of the charity’s work: promoting wellbeing through Art. The artists are all participants of workshops run for and by those whom have experienced mental distress. Special Event: Tue 19th October 6-9pm Oh! Gallery with screening of the Largactyl Shuffle film and presentation of CoolTan’s work. Exhibitions and Event entry are free. Come join the fun - You’d be mad not to!
