National Strategy Group for Art in Mental Health

 

GIVEN THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CLIMATE, THE NATIONAL STRATEGY GROUP IS  RELOOKING AT ITS' PRIORITIES AND WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THE VIEWS OF BOTH CURRENT MEMBERS  AND ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE GROUP

-TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!


We have formed a National Strategy group to take forward the arts and mental health, with a range of representatives from organisations across  the country,  such as Richard Taylor -  Arts and Minds Network Cambs., Tony and Angie Russell - Breakthrough, Val Huett and Neil Springham - British Association of Art Therapists, Simon Barber, Dr Sandeep Ranote and Duncan Barber -  5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Trust, Shirley Strange -  Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, Marissa Wakefield - DIVA,  Hayley Youell -  Forge Arts, Phil Russell and Kim Gregory -  HOOT, Professor Andre Tylee - The Institute of Psychiatry, Tim Sayers and Rachel Seagrave - Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Terry Overton -  Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Damian Hebron - London Arts in Health Forum, Clive Parkinson - Manchester Metropolitan University, Dr Andrew McCulloch - The Mental Health Foundation,  Mike Farrar CBE - NHS North West, Sam Dewis - O.T.’s in Mental Health, Stephen Firn -  Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Matt Ellis - Pathways, Andy Brooker and Belinda Sosinowicz -   Personality Plus and Emergence,   Laura Richardson - Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, Stuart Bell OBE and Beth Elliott - South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust,   Judy Wilson - South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust, Steven Michael - South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust,   Bernadette Conlon -  Start in Salford,  Martin Barkley - Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust,  Professor Stephen Clift -  ‘The Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health, Canterbury Christ Church University’ ,  Ali Lee - Waddington Street, Lesley Shore - Wolverhampton  City PCT.  The  objectives of which are:-

  • To influence and develop national policy on art and mental health.

  • To identify and share positive practice in art and mental health.

  • To increase opportunities to showcase the creative talents of people who experience mental health problems.

  • To develop an international network for anyone who shares our objectives.

  • To provide a strong voice for people with an interest in art and mental health.

  • To convince policy makers of the important role the arts have  to play in aiding recovery in mental health.

This is an inclusive group and anyone with a positive ‘can do’ attitude is welcome to join.   We can be contacted here

 

AT PRESENT OUR RESEARCH SUB GROUP ARE LOOKING FOR EXAMPLES OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL RESEARCH SHOWING THE BENEFITS OF USING ART IN MENTAL HEALTH, THAT WE ARE PULLING TOGETHER IN A 'REVIEW OF THE REVIEWS' PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT YOU THINK MAY BE USEFUL TO US......ALSO IF YOU MAY HAVE SOME TIME TO WORK WITH OUR SUB GROUP TO HELP PULL THE EXAMPLES TOGETHER.
